Are Fasted Workouts Really Best?

April 2, 2024 Yvonne Matthews

Fasted workouts is always one of the biggest questions I get and honestly, something I bring up with all my athletes or active clients. I am guessing we can all think of a rule we read in some magazine somewhere or a personal trainer drilled into your head about what you should be doing or what is best in this area. // Read More >

Calculate How Much Protein You Really Need

May 19, 2022 Yvonne Matthews

The word protein is derived from the Greek word protos, meaning "first". So you can see how important it is!

Protein is one of our three macronutrients. Macronutrients is just a fancy word for nutrients we need in large quantities. All our food is made up of one or all three of the macronutrients - carbohydrates, fat and protein. All three are important!

Now, most people know protein is important. But do you REALLY know why? Here's a few of the top reasons…

How to Have Fun Without Alcohol (Plus What To Do If You Are In Denver)

June 25, 2019 Yvonne Matthews

It’s been a minute crew. I know. My apologies.

I am in the process of redoing my website and getting ready to share some exciting news to come in a few months when I am able to share it! So, stay tuned!

One of the groups I help in my practice is those that struggle with the place of alcohol in their lives. And really I hesitate to use the word struggle because they may or may not struggle with it. But either way, they choose not to drink, prefer not to drink much or maybe they do have that lingering question of if they drink too much. This is not to say any of these people have an alcohol problem. That’s really not the right question to ask. Rather ask another question: what role does alcohol play in your life? And why do you choose to drink or not? And how do you feel about your relationship with alcohol?

So, I wanted to share some ideas of things to do to that aren’t centered around alcohol. Seems these days everything is centered around alcohol. I mean I love a good 10k, but why do we need to drink beer while we run it or even after? Sometimes I find having a plan, knowing where and what do do and that others out there are in the same boat is half the battle. And aside from these great ideas, there are some wonderful places and events to do if you are here in lovely Denver, Colorado.

Foundations of Nutrition - A Balanced Approach

September 12, 2018 Yvonne Matthews

Sometimes starting is the hardest part. I hear it all the time from my clients. And honestly, I go through it too. For me, I have found that creating a plan and taking that initial baby step forward is the best (and maybe only) way out of this sometimes-paralyzing place. I teach a 2-hour workshop on just this topic. And it’s always one of my favorites. So, I wanted to share today an easy step-by-step plan to building your foundation of nutrition and health.

So often we get caught up in the latest research or article on fish oil supplements, or this mushroom powder, or that one antioxidant rich fruit. It can get overwhelming and disorienting. Where do you start?
