Holistic Support for Seasonal Allergy Relief

April 13, 2021 Yvonne Matthews

Seasonal allergies affect around 20-25% of US adult population or 40-60 million people each year, according to the Allergy and Asthma Foundation of America.

Allergies in general are a physical, hypersensitive immune reaction to an antigen in response to exposure or reaction to a substance. This could be a food allergy, seasonal or other allergy. Some of the most common allergies are pollen, ragweed, animal fur, dust or certain foods. In reaction to the allergen the body produces the chemical histamine, which helps counteract that allergen. Generally, histamine helps the body with functions, like, immune system, communicating messages to the brain and keeping it awake and helps trigger the release of stomach acid. Its main role with allergies is to cause an inflammatory reaction in the body as a red flag of potential pathogens (danger). More specifically, it helps the blood vessels swell so white blood cells can travel and find the pathogen faster. This is a natural and proper response. Enzymes in the body will breakdown histamine afterwards.

12 Tips for Eating Well & Feeling Good while on The Go

February 24, 2021 Yvonne Matthews

While this past year may have been a bit different, to say the least, many people still have to or choose to travel. And sooner or later, life will continue to move forward and while I wont say it’ll go back to “normal”, we will all start traveling again and be on the go.

I often get asked by clients and friends, how to stay healthy or on their diet when on the go or traveling. And while everyone must find their own unique answer, my general answer is to always enjoy yourself, whether you are traveling (plane, train or auto) for work, to see family or friends or vacation. Here are a few of my favorite ways to feel good and eat well on the go. Like always, please take what you wish and leave the rest.

How to Have Fun Without Alcohol (Plus What To Do If You Are In Denver)

June 25, 2019 Yvonne Matthews

It’s been a minute crew. I know. My apologies.

I am in the process of redoing my website and getting ready to share some exciting news to come in a few months when I am able to share it! So, stay tuned!

One of the groups I help in my practice is those that struggle with the place of alcohol in their lives. And really I hesitate to use the word struggle because they may or may not struggle with it. But either way, they choose not to drink, prefer not to drink much or maybe they do have that lingering question of if they drink too much. This is not to say any of these people have an alcohol problem. That’s really not the right question to ask. Rather ask another question: what role does alcohol play in your life? And why do you choose to drink or not? And how do you feel about your relationship with alcohol?

So, I wanted to share some ideas of things to do to that aren’t centered around alcohol. Seems these days everything is centered around alcohol. I mean I love a good 10k, but why do we need to drink beer while we run it or even after? Sometimes I find having a plan, knowing where and what do do and that others out there are in the same boat is half the battle. And aside from these great ideas, there are some wonderful places and events to do if you are here in lovely Denver, Colorado.

Whether you are traveling on a plane, walking your pups out in the cold weather, not getting enough sunshine or your friends or kids are sneezing in your face, there’s always something getting passed around in winter.  I see it in the entries of the grocery store and the aisles of the checkout stands and all my cancelled meeting lately. It’s out there.

In fact, as I write this, I myself just kicked my own brief stint with a cold. Yup, even nutritionist and holistic practitioners aren’t immune (pun intended, hehe)!

But I’ve got some good news! I’v got some tricks and tips, I personally use to stay healthy and also beat that cold or flu! So, rather than having it hang around for 2-4 weeks (or more like I have heard from some) like a lot of my friends and family out there, this is exactly what I do to get quicker faster, so, I was only feeling down a couple of days instead of weeks.

This has been a long time coming. I get asked so often by friends and family that are coming here to Denver or Colorado, what they need to do, see and eat! So here’s my list of faves, including healthy eats and my favorite restaurant of all time, which I will be honest with you, was really hard to put on this list…for fear that it will be even that much harder to get a seat at when I want to go. But if you like it and you like others, sharing is key! So Thank you for allowing me to want to share it with ya’ll!
